DIY Homemade Popcorn

The ideal snack would include something that is quick, healthy, inexpensive, but also tasty. Microwave popcorn can usually be a pretty good choice (as long as it’s not the extra movie theater butter plus another side of butter). But I introduce you to the DIY Microwave Popcorn— it saves you time, money, and calories!

What you need:

  • Brown paper bag
  • 1/4 cup popcorn kernels
  • A microwave

Pour the 1/4 cup of kernels into the brown bag. Fold over the top of the bag twice to seal tightly (do not staple).

Lay the bag on it’s side in the microwave. All microwaves cook at different times, but around 2-3 minutes is all you need. Don’t walk away from the microwave and stop when there are 3 seconds between pops- I always say better early then burn-y!

And voilà! Healthy popcorn with no mysterious additives or yellow with butter. Now you can control how much salt or seasoning you add. I recommend either a little salt and a tiny amount of olive oil, or one of these unique seasonings from Urban Accents (especially the salt and vinegar one). There are other seasonings you make yourself, like adding some Cheyenne pepper or a little bit of cocoa powder- maybe both? Have fun and try new things!
